Special Education Advisory Committee

The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) focuses on the educational needs of students with disabilities and those in the gifted program. The committee is composed of parents within the program, as well as professionals and community members.

The meetings are open to anyone wishing to attend.  The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) provides parents and community representatives a way to communicate with the school system that serves their special needs and gifted child.

Committee Goals and proposed actions

Healthy Schools Committee

Who are we and what are we about?

This committee is made up of a group of parents who are interested in helping promote the health and learning of our children and our school communities.

What is a healthy school?
A healthy school is a place where students have many opportunities – in the classroom, and in every aspect of their school experience – to foster their healthy physical, mental, social and intellectual development. This is often referred to as Comprehensive School Health.

Healthy schools – also known as health-promoting schools – work with partners from the health and education sectors, and with those from the broader community, including parents,  to support students to develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. (Healthy Schools BC

When and where do we meet?
Typically the third Monday of the month at the school board office unless otherwise posted on this page.

Lice Check

An Administrative Procedure for lice check is followed in the Sooke School District. There is a great document put out by VIHA on how to detect and treat head lice. This committee may form again in 2013-14 to finalize the lice check pamphlet.

Emergency Preparedness Committee

SPEAC has formed an Emergency Preparedness Committee. We are looking for representatives from every school in the Sooke school district. Read the minutes and agendas below or email speac@sd62.bc.ca for more information.
